Paediatric First Aid (2 day)

This course meets the requirements for those working in Ofsted regulated childcare settings.The course content and duration follows the guidance set out by the Department for Education in the Early Years foundation stage statutory framework (EYFS).

Who is it for?

This course is suitable for those responsible for the care of young children, particularly childminders and other early years workers.

Topics covered


    • The role of the paediatric first aider.


    • Incident and casualty management.


    • Dealing with an unconscious casualty.


    • Cardiopulmonary resuscitation.


    • Dealing with choking.


    • Dealing with shock.


    • Dealing with bleeding and wounds


    • Medical conditions and illness.


    • The effects of extreme temperatures.


    • Fractures, dislocations and soft tissue injuries.


    • Dealing with head, neck and back injuries.


    • Dealing with eye and nose injuries.


    • Dealing with burns and electric shock.


    • Dealing with poisoning.


    • Dealing with bites and stings.


Course objectives

By the end of the course delegates will have thorough  knowledge on how to deal with accidents and illnesses involving children of all ages.

Course duration

12 hours, usually delivered over two days. 4 evening sessions may be accomodated upon request.

Assessment and certification

Continuous assessment by the trainer, successful delegates will receive a certificate that remains valid for 3 years.
