Dorset Business Awards 28.11.2019

Ouch Training Team announce their Dorset Business awards, Employee health and well-being award to Health on Line.

The standard of award entries this year has been really high and after visiting all of our entries we undertook the difficult task of picking our three finalists. The biggest asset an organisation has is its people. They are its history, its present and defines its future. This award recognises a successful Dorset based business who empowers and supports its people to succeed by going above and beyond legal requirements to meet the health and well-being needs of its employees. All three of our finalists are passionate about their employees’ health and well-being but for our judges Health on line stood out.

This ceremony was the 25th Dorset Business awards and guests were treated to a gala dinner and entertainment with a 90’s theme. It was a fantastic evening hosted by the Dorset Chamber and the Ouch team were proud to sponsor this prestigious award.

Hope you enjoy these photos of the evening.

Ouch attended the British Chambers of Commerce annual Conference 5 March 2020.

Su attended the conference representing Ouch and the Dorset chamber of commerce. It was really good to hear from the Rt Hon Matt Hancock MP who told us about the government’s plan for the spread of Coronavirus in the UK. The panel who discussed the workforce of the future was particularly interesting. Overall a superb day and a great experience.

Welcome back to the Ouch Training Team Nick Hince

All of us at Ouch are really pleased to have Nick back in the Manchester area as our Regional manager.

Nick explained about his life in between his Ouch roles…..

“My background includes working for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service for nearly 30 years, retiring  from the Service in July 2019. During this time I served as an operational Firefighter, Watch Officer and as a Station Commander, ending my career managing two Fire Stations. People management became a significant part of my role and this is where I developed my passion for the welfare, health & well-being of the personnel I supported. I was fortunate to be able to pick up some really interesting qualifications, including becoming a “Trim practitioner”, which is part of the support process to help the operational crews deal with the more traumatic and distressing incidents they attend.

I have been a qualified instructor and assessor for nearly twenty years, also involved in the development and internal quality assurance of apprentices.

I enjoy family time, football and music, especially live music and festivals.

I’m looking forward to bringing my experience, especially with managing health & well-being to such a dynamic and forward thinking Ouch team.”

Welcome Nick we are all really looking forward to working with you.

Dorset Construction Forum Mental health talk 24.08.2019

Simon from Ouch delivered a talk today on Mental health for the members of Dorset Construction Forum at the beautiful venue at Merley House, The Orangery.

It was fantastic that the room was packed and that everyone was engaged with the session.

Did you know according to the Mental Health foundation “Evidence suggests that 12.7% of all sickness absence days in the UK can be attributed to mental health conditions”.

There is some fantastic information on the Mates in Mind website. Mates in Mind is a registered charity, raising awareness, addressing the stigma of poor mental health and promoting positive mental wellbeing across workplaces.

Thank you to Lisa and the DCTF members for having us.

County Connections Networking Lunch 20.08.2019

Simon and Su from the Ouch Training Team had the pleasure of attending a networking lunch on the 20 August at Rhinefield House. We drove through the beautiful New Forest on the way and stopped to take some lovely pictures of the ponies, the scenery was truly breath-taking.

This was a Dorset Chamber of Commerce and Hampshire Chamber county connections networking lunch. We had never visited Rhinefield House before and so we were keen to look around. The house, grounds and fish ponds were really lovely and well worth a visit. The event was really well attended and we enjoyed hearing from the DCCI President Liz Willingham and from Wessex Heartbeat who sponsored the event. Super food, great conversations and a beautiful environment, we will defiantly be visiting Rhinefield House again.

DCCI Networking Lunch Dudsbury Golf Club 16.05.19

I attended a very packed Dorset Chamber networking lunch at Dudsbury golf course on 16 May. As its mental health awareness week 13-19 May and because of our health and wellbeing training I was asked to talk to those attending about Mental health. I invented a fictitious character called Tom and talked about all of his worries and concerns which were filling up his stress container. We all have a stress container each one is individual and is of a different size. When the container fills up and up, it will eventually spill out over the top. This then shows as our stress signature and can come out in different ways.  I then talked about healthy ways to relieve the stress in our lives. This included things we can do at work and home. I gave each person who attended an Ouch guide to looking after you mental health and a stress card. I explained about the #Middaymile which we do every day at Ouch HQ with our four office dogs. I explained how the team at Greendale Construction also do the #Middaymile after they attended mental health first aid training with the Ouch team. Chris Kane from Greendale talked about the benefits of this daily walk for his team. We had a super lunch of salmon, vegetables and potatoes and crumble for pudding. Fantastic event, thank you to the Dorset Chamber team.

Simon visits Hinkley Point 11.04.19

Had a great day yesterday, it was the second day of fact finding about work based health and safety behaviours. Europe’s biggest construction site has seen an enormous investment of time, money and effort, ploughed into the common goal of worker health, safety and wellbeing. It’s obvious to see how this is a top priority for all. Whenever different organisations work together there is always the added challenge of understanding and coordinating different  cultures and behaviours. Whether you are working on an enormous scale such as Hinkley point or perhaps joint projects on a much smaller scale, thinking about how you can understand and integrate different cultures and behaviours is vital.

Dorset business volunteering opportunity supports employee health and wellbeing

Not satisfied with just providing mental health and employee wellbeing training Ouch Training Team are now actively seeking to encourage and facilitate opportunities for employee wellbeing. After running our recent health and wellbeing event at Blandford Brewery we spotted an opportunity to encourage a spot of community volunteering. On a recent Mental Health first aid course one of our clients “Composite profiles” expressed a desire to improve employee wellbeing through the shared experience of community project volunteering. On the same course were members of Dorset wildlife trust. One organisation was looking for volunteers whilst another was looking for a community project in need of help. Ouch facilitated this connection by liaising between the two organisations and documenting their shared experiences through video. Getting your team to work together for a good cause is a great way to improve employee wellbeing and that is exactly what happened on 28 March 2019 at Lorton Meadows in Weymouth. Well done to Composite Profiles and Dorset Wildlife Trust, a fantastic example of what can be done when the people of Dorset work together.

Dorset Chamber Partners Dinner 03.04.19

On Wednesday 3rd April 2019 Simon and Su attended the Dorset Chamber of Commerce Partners Dinner held at the The Italian Villa.

What a fantastic evening! Tony Beales treated us to the most delicious menu. He called it Tony’s 25 mile menu and all the ingredients were sourced within a 25 mile radius. Absolutely delicious, I had the vegetarian option and Simon had the Duo of Dorchester lamb. Thank you Tony for delighting our taste buds!

The event was well attended and it was great to catch up with everyone and meet some new faces. Thank you to the team at the Dorset Chamber for organising such a great evening.

DCCI Bulbury Woods Golf Club 11.06.2019

Great venue and super way to start the day networking with the Dorset chamber team at Bulbury Woods Golf Club. This venue is just off the A35 and well worth a visit. Great healthy smoothies and fruit were on offer with a tour of the facilities.

Our new Ouch team member, Jessica was with me to spread the word about a new product she is developing for Ouch. We are now able to offer a full health and wellbeing audit service where Jessica will produce a report giving your company guidance on how to move your wellbeing strategy forward.

Maritime Business Breakfast at Rick Stein 04.06.2019

I attended an early breakfast networking meeting this morning in Sandbanks at Rick Stein restaurant. The view is really lovely looking out over the sea and we also had a good view of the biggest cruise ship ever to come into Poole harbour.  The MV Boudicca, docks at Poole Harbour’s South Quay as part of a free eight-day cruise marking the 75th anniversary of D-Day.

The breakfast was really tasty and the room was buzzing. It was good to catch up with members of the Dorset Chamber and to meet some new contacts. What a perfect way to start the day of business.

Virtual networking at Centre VR Bournemouth 22.05.19

I attended another exciting Dorset Chamber networking event today where I got to view the virtual reality world for the first time. I went under the sea and saw marine life and not a diving suit or breathing equipment in sight. As I looked a sea turtle swam past and then some jellyfish! It was such a fantastic experience. I then had  a go at a game where I zapped objects which were coming towards me at a fast pace. There was such enthusiasm in the room and excited buzz. Business networking with a virtual experience, yes please!!

Health & Wellbeing Event 01.03.19

Following on from the Dorset Business awards in 2018 where Ouch Training and our friends BWT Physio sponsored the Employee health and wellbeing award we decided we needed an event to share with others all the amazing things Dorset businesses are doing to support their teams wellbeing.

With the support of Anne Warner from the Dorset Chamber and with sponsorship from Hall and Woodhouse, together we organised a really positive morning of wellbeing on the 1 March 2019. The event was held at the Hall and Woodhouse Brewery site in Blandford. Liz Willingham President of the Dorset Chamber opened the event with Anthony Woodhouse. Simon Cassin, our Director talked about the benefits of the Middaymile. All of the Ouch team do this every day, whatever the weather with our four office dogs! We love it!

Other speakers included Gary from Blue Sky financial, Georgina from The West Hants club, Debbie from BWT Physio and Lucy from Organix, who won the Dorset Business Award.

There was also time to walk around and have a health check from Live Well Dorset, get your office furniture sorted from Osmond Ergonomics and have a go at hooping with Kim and even try yoga! We also had the fantastic team from Dorset Wildlife Trust, Hannah from Purple HR, Wessex water, Bournemouth and Poole college and Livability there to talk to the guests about all the aspects of wellbeing.

Thank you to everyone for making this morning such a big success and helping us to promote health and wellbeing in Dorset.

Keep a look out on our website as we are already talking with The Dorset Chamber about our next event!
